The Final Days of Summer

A poem

Bid the New Zealand sun goodbye.
Let the thermometers drop with
the heat
and the scorching sun cease to sear.
Say farewell to lengthy days,
and to the brief, fleeting nights.

A walk to the beach,
the focal point of the period–
the pale blue seas garnished
round with hot gritty sands.
The temperatures prompt you for a dip
so you recover moisture
with crisp fresh air to breathe.

The beautiful girls in bikinis,
the center of attraction,
flaunting symmetry and curves
with bods postured for competition.
Decked in sun hats and sunscreens
daylight sets their parade.

Goodbye to sweltering nights,
to roaches, flies and crawling ants.
No more will pores sweat profusely
to make beds pools so wet.

I’m a fanatic of the pleasures of
nature –
of greenery and wildlife,
of coasts and sea life,
however, nothing says farewell like
the final days of summer.
