Defanging The Blame Demon.

Maybe there’s something in the water out there in Denver.

Yesterday I was scrolling through Reddit doing research for the illustrious Money Master Manifesto when I came across this little gem.

I almost didn’t want to share this, because it’s TOO ridiculous in its arrogance.

And having worked my way through college, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read this.

Anyway, here goes….

Reddit Post

Title: School Won’t give me enough student aid and I’m going to go bankrupt My school’s financial aid office caps aid at $29,000 arguing at this is enough to cover tuition fees and cost of living. however over the course of last year my cost-of-living exceeded this amount by more than $15,000 which is now on my credit cards. I found internal documents from my school which place the figure at a much more reasonable to me $47,000 to $48,000 depending on your major. so basically I need like a $22,000ish loan to cover my credit card debt and cost of living till winter. Are there any reputable uncertified lenders that could cover these extra costs? Are there other obvious lending options I haven’t considered? It is likely the last semester I’ll have to live off of student loans because I graduate in May and I’ll likely have a paid computer science internship in the spring. Thanks Before anyone asks, no I can’t live at home, my dad is abusive.
No I can’t get a job I’ve tried to work during the semester in the past and I just get really bad grades and end up depressed, It’s next to impossible to pay for living expenses with a part time job in Denver anyway.

Wowza.

Before I shred this excuse like a nice chicken fajita soup, let me just say that I get it. I worked my way through college. It took me 7 hard years of working and studying. (And all I got was a silly piece of paper…oops)

And that’s why I find this whole post to be bananas.

Yesterday, I talked about taking responsibility for EVERYTHING in your life.

This is the opposite of that. And although I can relate to the difficulties they face, the way they handle it is simply crazy to me.

Now, the post.

First of all, this guy points out that “his” cost of living is 15k more than what the school graciously gives him. This roughly translates to, “I waste my money on dumb crap for status.”

You can see all throughout the story that he blames everyone but himself for this.

He blames his Dad…who sounds like a rotten, nasty piece of work. So that really does suck. But it’s not really relevant to his problem. Lots of people live in their own place just fine. And being an adult, nobody owes him a place to stay. Next…

Now this is the craziest part for me. He says that he CAN’T get a job. Because it makes him “depressed” and gets bad grades.

Well bud, I’m here to tell you that it’s your fault you can’t make better grades.

I’m a million percent sure you could go to bed earlier and wake up at 4 A.M to do a little homework.

It ain’t that hard, buttercup.

And the part about depression? I won’t mock it.

Yeah, depression can suck. And maybe he really does have a case of clinical depression. But in his case, he’s more likely experiencing boredom and a lack of fulfillment. And on top of that, I know plenty of folks with severe clinical depression that run high 6-figure empires.

Which means he probably hates school as it is, and let’s face it, most jobs available to college students absolutely suck.

Either way, it’s fixable.

In fact, everything he whines about is fixable. And it doesn’t even take long.

If you hate your job or feel trapped in your situation. There is a way out.

And I wouldn’t suggest filing for bankruptcy…

…that’s like launching the nukes over a minor trade dispute.

In the Money Master Manifesto, I share how to escape your unfulfilling job, get rid of strangling debt, and start a new and rewarding career without paying for costly education.

And that’s just part of it.

It’s a lot like struggling for hours to beat a difficult boss in a video game and then getting handed the cheat codes.

If I can help just 1 of you get out of a tough situation like the above story, I’ll be a happy man.

And remember, just because you are barely scraping by right now, doesn’t mean it’s a hopeless cause. I’m positive that if this guy from Reddit could read my book, he could dramatically turn his life around.

So, I’ll get back to writing editing that hushpuppy.

Bye for now,
