Tranquil

I look around
and no one is there
and I breathe

I wait
expecting the serenity
to come crashing down

but it doesn’t
it won’t
because no one is here

the sun hides
afraid to peak out
afraid to disturb the peace

the stars twinkle
winking at you — and only you
because no one else is around

I lean back
easing into my place in this world
and I breathe

the sky darkens
shade by shade
enveloping me

welcoming me
inviting me home
and so I smile
