To The Guy Who Complimented My Glasses

Thank you for the kind words. Thank you for the compliments. Thank you for noticing the effort I put into getting ready to go out that night. Thank you for keeping me company until my friends arrived. Thank you for being a perfect gentleman, even if only for a short while. Most of all, thank you for showing me that I don’t owe anyone anything — especially you.

Congratulations on your success. You’ve come a long way from East Texas to prove your worth to the world, and I’m happy for you. Your success, and the money that comes along with it, does not mean you can have whatever — or whoever — you want. That includes me. The drinks you bought, the food you paid for… neither of those earn any points into my pants. I was there for the conversation; to get to know you. You had an ulterior motive and your true colors came through rather quickly.

Don’t mistake me for being a prude, either. I am anything but that. In fact, after I chose to walk away from our conversation, I had my own share of fun. So it’s not me — you’re just an asshole.

Take this short-lived connection between us and do with it what you will. I choose to take it as a lesson. A lesson that tells me I don’t need to be objectified or manhandled to have fun or to be fun. I’m entertaining. I’m not bad to look at. I have a lot to bring to the table.

I also have a lot to bring to the bedroom. Just not yours.
