How to Revamp Your Website

Notice that your website is looking a little dated? Want your Squarespace site to feel more customised? Here are a few ways you can give your site a refresh before you decide to jump right into a redesign.

01. COHESIVE/CUSTOM TYPOGRAPHY.

Did you set up your site with just the system fonts? If you want to make sure your site is cohesive with your brand you may want to tinker around with the fonts.

You can also make your site more cohesive and intuitive by making sure the typography on your site follows some rules. Like every heading has an eyebrow above it or all paragraphs are to be split into columns.

Sometimes these definite rules make it easier for us to create cohesive sites. An easy rule from @januarymadedesign on Instagram: make a blank page on your site and set up all variations of your typography to make sure it’s all cohesive!

02. NEW IMAGERY.

If you are feeling like your site is just falling flat consider updating your imagery. Instead of using free stock photographs, spend an afternoon planning and photographing what you want your brand to be. If you have the means to do so I would also suggest hiring a photographer or art director to help out with this.

Doing this will help you when you are ready for a redesign. It will set up a foundation and save you some time moving forward.

03. SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY!

If you’re finding your website or even the thought of a redesign overwhelming maybe you should go back to basics. Find out what you really need on your site and strip away the rest. This goes for content as well as design. Make sure to keep your main navigation as simple as possible, only keep what you really want a viewer to explore up there. Anything else that you think needs to be on the site but probably isn’t the main reason someone is there, put it in the footer.

Simplifying will help you understand your brand and how to visualise it as well as help your website become more intuitive. Try to remove any paragraphs on your home page and focus more on images and CTA’s.
