The Challenge

Finding a problem in zenius homepage app and other related matters, and trying to improve it.

Re-design a homepage zenius application that can help the users in helping them to achieve their goals, especially those focused on learning activities.

I used IDEO’s design thinking process as the foundation to do this research.

There are several things that i do here, it start from create research plan like define the scopes, define research’s objective, and others.

To achieve one goal,

I made a scopes, so that it only focuses on the target user that I specified.

Understand what they think about the homepage of the zenius app especially those that focus on learning activities.

Some questions that I ask to participants, how do they achieve their goals as effectively and efficiently as possible. In this case, to study or find any information on the homepage of the app.

The research I did, was an online interview and did a little usability test according to the problems related above. I did this so I could redesign the homepage of the genius app based on the problems the user felt and gave me advice on what was positive and what was negative to strengthen my hypothesis.

Here is all response from people that i interviewed and tested.

Here are some responses from people (extreme users) I have interviewed, then I tried to sort the responses and grouping the same responses based on the questions that I asked.

I created a user persona that reflects user personality as a potential user to help to guide me in making design decisions.

This persona is categorized of people who rely on the internet or education platform to fulfil her knowledge or her learning needs.

I did not created a user scenario because the solution I will make is less related to user journey, but only relates to one page only.

Here is the existing full homepage screen of zenius application.

The existing homepage is great. It is provide the needs for the students to facilitate their learning needs. The subject material, the exam, the live video learning, and other related matters.

But the homepage will be better if provide information something that i’ve been explained above like progress learning, nearest exam information, and others.

So i tried to make this solution to solve their problem and make the user feel more comfort when they use this app.

I tried to make this solution through the wireframe process and turn it into high fidelity design.

I started to create a wireframe that can describe the solution that I will make to solve the paint points problem above. Noted that, the solution I made is still an assumption, because my concern is focused on the homepage and shows all the information.

I turned my proposed solutions into high-fidelity design and the details I will be explained on every page below.

Homepage

I try to combine my solution and the existing homepage design of zenius app that i think, its good enough.

On this page, users will find several menus at zenius app that can support the learning program.

On the top of page is greeting for the user with button to access their profile.

At the bottom of the greeting’s, there is a search bar to help the user find the menus or subject quickly. I try to move the search feature from navigation bar to this page because if the search bar appears directly, when the users open the app and they want to find something through this search bar, they will use it faster without clicking the navigation menu’s.

Below of the search bar, there is learning progress report for the users to help them to track their progress, so they could know what will they do. Its consist of number of watched videos, subject that they has been taken, and the test or exam that they done.

The next below of the learning progress report, there is resume learning that will help user to jump to the history videos that have not yet been watched. Before i do the redesign of this homepage, the resume learning is placed under the subject. Then i try to move it to the top because i think if the user is focused on learning something and they stop for a moment, they will jump to the resume learning feature. And it will help the user to find the resume learning feature quickly without scrolling this page too much.

Above of subject is all of exam information, consist of the type of exam, the countdown of nearest exams, and the reminder of lowest grades of the exam that the user done.

The countdown of nearest exam will the user to remind to prepare what should they learn or they do, with the hope that when they prepare more thoroughly they will get maximum results.

The reminder of lowest grades will help the user to consider about trying the test again that will makes the test or their subject exam to be better and its will also indicate that on certain subjects, they are not optimal in learning it.

Learning Progress Report’s

On this page the user can see the report of what they done that consist of how much videos that they watched, the number of subject that has been taken, and how much the test or exams that they done.

Below of quick information, there is the simple daily statistic per-week. The user can review the progress form the past week per each day. The videos that they watched, the test that they done, and others.

The daily statistic is consist of videos watched, the exams or test done, and a bit information about the number of the subject that the user has been taken.

The goals of this report is help the user to consider about what should they do when they see this report to makes their learning quality better.

I conducted a small usability testing to 2 people to find out whether people can use this app or not. And here’s the scenario and task for the partisipant that i created :

And all of these partisipant can easily finish this task and have a good feeling, but i think this result its still have to test to more partisipant to gain more insight and this result its still not really good because just using clickable prototype.
