Be a true Anthropologist

Be a true Anthropologist! From this phrase, you guys must’ve got a little understanding of what I am going to talk about.

So when I say that; be a true anthropologist, I ask you guys to be less ethnocentric and judgmental here. As it’s been more than 3 years since we are learning the anthropological ethics of ‘putting yourself in another’s shoes!’, never being judgmental towards other’s cultural practices, and most importantly ‘never stereotyping others by being ethnocentric.

Though with due respect I am sorry to say that we are still lacking this basic ethic, we are still so biased, so judgmental, and unprofessional, that we still don’t know how to respect others’ choices, preferences, and likings.

Unfortunately, we are still carrying a burden of a habit of taunting others, when we perceive them differently from us. Here, I want to ask WHY? WHY IS IT THIS WAY? Why does it feel like we have wasted our three years of bachelor's and is still standing on rock bottom? Why have we still not learned to approach others with an open mind, without any preconceived biases and judgments?

There is this one thing that I want to openly talk about as an example. Yeah! an example of Korean culture. As I am really into kpop and stuff, and I openly admit to it, so several faces in the field of anthropology proved that they have still a long way to go to be a true anthropologist, when I have interacted with them regarding this topic, they have labeled that K- culture in negative terms. However, I am 110% sure that they don’t even know a “C” of their culture. What I am referring to, is that it is in the Korean culture that men also wear light and natural makeup, and for that, they face so much hatred and taunts from the people, in which some are from anthropology. I am sorry for pointing out the people, but truly, this is what I want to talk about. So I would like to conclude with a point that, Please don’t be this judgmental, biased, or straightforward that you lose your wiseness.
